Learning to Wait

Yesterday my friends and I made a delicious apple pie.  My friend read the directions and it said to let it cool for two hours.  I said “I can’t wait for two hours; I don’t want to wait to eat it!”  How could I wait to do something I really wanted to do—eat some delicious pie?  This reminded me of what I have been learning about in my InTouch magazine.  This month’s InTouch is called “Waiting on God.”

Just like me not wanting to wait to eat the pie, in life we  don’t like to wait and we want things to happen right away.  If you are anything like me, I struggle with patience and waiting.   God is teaching me a lot about being patient and waiting on His timing. But, God has a plan and that plan includes His perfect timing.  This means we can’t have everything work out the way we want, when we want it to work out.  God knows better than we do. He is With Me

Last night I cracked open my Bible to a random passage in Psalm and I came across Psalm 139.  One verse in particular stuck out to me.  ”Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence” Psalm 139:7.”  This question is answered in verses 9 and 10: “If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”  I am so comforted by that passage because no matter where we are or what circumstances we are in, God is with us every step of the way.  I struggle with anxiety, and I have struggled with anxiety since I was a kid, so passages like this are extremely comforting to me.   [Read more...]
