Let Go of the Pen

It has been forever since I’ve made a blog post..whats wrong with me!  I must have crazy writer’s block or something.  For those worried if I fell off the face of the planet, I am still alive haha!  And for others worried by the title that  I am going to write something crazy, you might be right.  I listened the sweetest song today by Moriah Peters called “Haven’t Even Kissed,” so I thought I should share it!

Many young people like myself worry about finding the “one”!  We get so caught up trying to make it happen for ourselves and forget who is the one in charge, God!  He already has a plan and a purpose.  He will find a way for us to meet the “one,” the person He has perfectly chosen for you.  I was listening to this song today and it really struck a chord in my heart.  When you are praying for God’s guidance and work in your life, He works His plans in the most unlikely of ways.  We need to let Him write our love story because He is much better at that than we are.

The lyrics that stuck out to me reminded me that we have to give God His place in our life to what He knows best to do–work our His plan and bring the right people into our lives.

I have been waiting patiently

I locked up my heart, gave God the key

And I’ve had to trust Him for a while

But now I can’t see you and not smile

Sometimes you seemed so out of reach

I held onto hope but I still felt lonely

Then I gave God the pen to write this love story

So it is time we let go of the pens we are holding.  We need to give our pens to the author of Life.  He is pretty good at what He does!  God seems to write some pretty awesome love stories.

Rejection: Is it Part of God’s Plan?

I have struggled with rejection my whole life.  I try not to let it bother me, but I have to admit it gets to me.  This morning as I was getting ready for work, I was dwelling on rejection from past friends and peers. Why would God allow for me to go through such painful experiences?  Then a thought popped into my head, and I am pretty sure God had something to do with it.  Rejection is part of God’s plan and it has a purpose.

What if there is a reason why I and many other believers have gone through periods of rejection? And what if that reason is because God has a perfect plan–He is protecting us from relationships and friendships that aren’t right for us.

As much as it is hard to be rejected, knowing that God has a perfect plan for my life is comforting.  He knows what is good for my life and who is good in my life.  No matter what, I know Jesus loved me and you so much that He was willing to die for us.  He thinks we are beautiful, special, valuable, and lovable.  No amount of rejection can keep us from the love of Christ.  Now when I look back on those times when I was rejected, I realize that God had a plan even in that difficult time.  We serve a wonderful God!

If you are feeling discouraged and rejected today, know Jesus loves you more than you could ever know.  He thinks you are beautiful, special, valuable, and lovable.

Dear Mom

Like many of you, God has blessed with me with an amazing mom.  God has used her to speak truth and love into my life.

To all you moms out there–you may never know how much you mean to your children.  To all the children out there—never let one moment pass without you telling your mom (and dad) how much you love them.

My mom is my best friend and biggest cheerleader.  I wrote this for her. [Read more...]

Accepted in Christ

I have to be honest with you today, I am struggling.  As much as I try to tell myself that I don’t long to fit in and be accepted, I am struggling with just that.  Whether it be trying to find acceptance with my peers or those on  blogs and Twitter, I have been struggling with wanting acceptance.  As humans, we long to fit in and be accepted,  but what makes all the difference is realizing that we are already accepted.  We are accepted by a loving Savior.  When we forget to look to Him for our purpose and acceptance, we look to the world to fill the place in our life.  The world can never fill that hole in our heart, only Jesus can.  Even as believers, we know we are already accepted but we forget that and start to look for acceptance from friends, family members, peers, and boyfriends/girlfriends.  I don’t know about you, but when I go searching for acceptance from others, it leaves me drained and worn out.

“You don’t have to try so hard to ‘fit in.’ God thinks you’re pretty great just the way He made you.” Caleb Grimm (Member of Anthem Lights)

“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” Psalm 118:8

I have to find my true happiness and peace in the loving arms of my Father.  It shouldn’t even matter how many people are following me on Twitter or how what my peers think, I need to find my acceptance in Christ.  Sure, I get pretty excited when people want to follow me, but that can’t provide me with true happiness, it is just a tool for me to share the Gospel and encourage others.

It is time that I let go of what has been holding me back.  I don’t need to search for acceptance from others because Christ has already accepted me.  I need to focus my eyes on Jesus and surround myself with Him because when I take my eyes off of Him, that’s when everything falls to pieces.  God is really working on my heart in this area of my life, and I can’t be too busy to take the time and listen to Him!  Does it mean that I won’t struggle at times with acceptance?  No, I am work-in-progress and I will still struggle.  But, when I focus my eyes and heart on Jesus, I will find the strength I need to ward off the negative thoughts and lies!

Are you struggling with acceptance today?  Run to the arms of your loving Heavenly Father—He loves and accepts you!

Made for a Beautiful Purpose

My friends took me to a beautiful area outside of town today.  There was prairie grass and streams, with some walking paths throughout the park.  I soaked up the beautiful scenery, praising God for His wonderful creation.  While we were walking, we saw this bench by the path.  My friend said, “Wow, that bench if really broken and beaten up.”  After she said that, I start to think about our lives.

The bench is broken and worn down, but it serves a purpose.  We are like the bench in many ways.  We have hurts, pain, and brokenness from our past.  We have things in our past that might be ugly.  The coolest thing about our walk with God is that He uses our brokenness and and our past for His purpose.  Our life has purpose, even if we feel that God cannot use our past or  brokenness, He certainly will use it for His glory and purpose.

“God uses broken people to reach a broken world. The mistakes of yesterday say nothing of the possibilities of tomorrow.” ~Gov. Rick Perry

We all have a story to share with those around us; stories of hope and redemption.  No matter where we’re from or what we look like, God can use each of us for a greater purpose—to bring glory and praise to His Name.  People will see God through you when you share with them how God saved you and used you for a purpose.

God is so amazing!  He takes broken, beaten down people and turns their mess into a message.  God turns nobodies into somebodies.  No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, their is hope in Jesus Christ.  We are all meant for a greater purpose!

I Am Loved

Feelings of loneliness, pain, and grief, you might be feeling unloved today.  Maybe your girlfriend or boyfriend broke your heart in two or maybe your family hurt you and they don’t show you the love you deserve.  You could be in school today feeling alone and rejected.  Feeling unworthy of love, you might be in a place where you want to give up.

Dear friend, please do not give up!  You are more loved than you could ever know.  Jesus died to save you and bring you new life.  He died for you and He wants you to know how much He loves you.  There isn’t even a way to measure how much love Christ has for us.  No amount of earthy measuring system could come close to measuring the love of Christ.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 [Read more...]

God Hasn’t Forgotten About You

I came across an awesome Christian band, Sixteen Cities.  I checked out their new album, Love is Making a Way, and I love it!  One of the songs stuck out to me today, and it is called “Still Here with Me.”  Have you ever felt like you were all alone and that maybe God forgot about you?  Well that is far from the truth, God is with you always, during the good, the bad, and the ugly even if you can’t feel Him around you

“You’re the earth beneath my feet
You’re the shelter I need
I’m sure that I’m not alone, not alone
Though the world tries to tell me so, tell me so
In this valley I’m goin’ through
Even when it’s hard to see,
You’re still here with me, you’re still here with me”  [Read more...]

Let My Life Be the Proof

I just added For King & Country’s new record, Crave, to my Rdio account, and I am loving every minute of listening to it!  I already had their EP and was in love with “Busted Heart.”  One song in particular stuck out to me today, “The Proof of You Love.”   I played it for an hour straight!  The song reminds me to show love to those around me because as Christians we are called to be God’s light in the dark world.  There are hurting people all around us that desperately need to be shown love and to hear about a loving Savior.  They are crying out for use to reach out to them and show them God’s love.   [Read more...]

Why Don’t We Encourage One Another?

You might think I am a little crazy, but my cough drop wrappers have encouraging words on them.  I know I have a cold, but really I am not feverish.  My mom was gracious enough to pick up some Halls cough drops today.  As I unwrapped my cough drop I noticed the wrapper said stuff like “You got it in you; keep your chin up; tough is your middle name; get back in the game…”  It got me thinking, what if the only encouraging words a person heard or saw in a day came from their cough drop wrapper?  How often do we encourage one another?  Do we ever go a whole day without encouraging those around us?   [Read more...]

I Want to Live Like That

This week I got a call from my mom urging me to turn to KLove that instant because her new favorite song was on.  I could hear her singing to it in the background but I didn’t recognize it.  So, I turned on Klove and I heard “Live Like That” by Sidewalk Prophets.  No wonder she was demanding I turn on the radio that very instant–it’s an amazing song.  On the drive back home today, I listened to that song for a straight hour; that shows you how much I love it.

I have been struggling lately over how I’m doing when it comes to showing Christ’s love to others. [Read more...]
