I’m Like Humpty Dumpty…Are You?

I am probably one of the most random people.  Bare with me as I tell my random tale :)

Last night as I was trying to fall asleep, I kept thinking about Humpty Dumpty (I know, I’m weird).

“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again”

I kept wondering why could no one fix him, why did he fall, how could horses fix him in the first place.  Then a thought popped into my head: I’m humpty dumpty, we are all humpty dumpty.  Why do I say this?  Because we are all broken, fallen people.  Maybe we aren’t all suffering from physical pain like humpty dumpty, but we are dealing with emotionally pain.  We try to let the world “fix us.”  We use relationships, jobs, families, possessions, friendships, you name it to try to fix our brokenness and pain, but it just doesn’t seem to work.  Sometimes we go to extremes and try to let alcohol or drugs mask our pain, but that too doesn’t seem to do the trick.  You know what is missing? Jesus!

Jesus is the only one who can heal our brokenness.  Everything else is just a temporary bandage on the situation.  He knows us better than we know ourselves; He hears our cries even before we utter a sound.  He love is so wide, deep, extensive, I don’t think it can even fully be described.  Once you feel Jesus’ love surround you, everything else means nothing.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

I love Christian music and Chris Tomlin’s “I Lift My Hands,” beautiful describes Jesus.

“Be still, there is a healer

His love is deeper than the sea

His mercy, it is unfailing

His arms are fortress for the weak…”

Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ means having someone in your life who loves you despite of everything you’ve said, done, or thought.  His arms are always open, no matter what you’ve done in the past.  He waits for us with arms wide open ready to heal our wounds and transform our lives.  As much as we think retail therapy, alcohol, relationships or even chocolate will do the trick when we are in pain, none of this comes close to the peace, comfort, and healing we find in the arms of Christ.

So here I am admitting to you that I am humpty dumpty.  I try over and over again to us the things of this world to heal my disappointment, sadness, and fear, but it just doesn’t work. I am a broken person in need of Savior.  I fall Him daily, but He still loves me.  I can run to Him and He will always be there for me.  The same is true for you.  Jesus is waiting for you to jump into His arms and to know the love He has for you.

I know its crazy for me to compare our lives to humpty dumpty, but when it all comes down to it we are broken in need of healing.  We just have to remind ourselves that we can’t go it alone, we desperately need Jesus in our lives.  We need His love, peace, and guidance.  Again and again I fail because I forget to rely on my loving, Savior.  The story of humpty dumpty sure convicted me today, never thought that would happen!

Praying for any of you reading today.  Know you are deeply loved and never to far gone for Christ’s healing power!

Today I was reflecting how amazing it is to have a Savior who died on the cross for my sins.  I started to think about what it would be like if someone handed me check in the amount of my huge student loan debt.  Christ did something more amazing than that—He paid the price of my sin debt, a debt that I could never pay off myself.  No amount of good works could ever pay off the debt.  I am so in aware of what Christ did for you and I on the cross.  He was sinless and blameless, he lived a perfect life,  yet He took the punishment of my sins.  My sin debt is no more because of what Christ did on the cross. God Hasn’t Forgotten About You

I came across an awesome Christian band, Sixteen Cities.  I checked out their new album, Love is Making a Way, and I love it!  One of the songs stuck out to me today, and it is called “Still Here with Me.”  Have you ever felt like you were all alone and that maybe God forgot about you?  Well that is far from the truth, God is with you always, during the good, the bad, and the ugly even if you can’t feel Him around you

“You’re the earth beneath my feet
You’re the shelter I need
I’m sure that I’m not alone, not alone
Though the world tries to tell me so, tell me so
In this valley I’m goin’ through
Even when it’s hard to see,
You’re still here with me, you’re still here with me”  [Read more...]

Unless We, Who Will?

After watching Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax, I found a quote that reminded me how important it is for us to make a difference for Christ.  I wrote about it in an earlier post, but I felt like I needed to expand on the topic of loving your neighbor.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

If we don’t help, who will? We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and we cannot ignore that call. Sometimes we get busy in our daily life and say, “I am too busy, that’s somebody else’s job to help that person.”  If God has called you to act, it is your job to listen and help.

I am reminded of the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 25-37.  When asked by a man how a person receives eternal life, Jesus responded in verse 27.  “He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”  In verse 29, the man asks who his neighbor was.  [Read more...]

Our Best Friend, Jesus

Do you ever feel lonely?  Do you ever feel like no one cares about you?  I have something to tell you—you are more loved than you could ever imagine! The God of the universe gave His son, Jesus, to die on the cross to pay the price for your sins.  Now that’s love!  Jesus wants to be your friend, and He is the best friend you could ever have!

I am reminded of one of my dear relatives who is now in heaven with the Lord.  After her husband passed away, she lived in a farmhouse alone.  People would always ask her is she was lonely or afraid, and she would always say,  ”I am not alone, Jesus is with me.”  Every time I am feeling lonely I am reminded of what she said.  If Jesus is in your life, you are never alone; He is with you every step of the way.  I have struggled with feelings of loneliness, but when I realize that Jesus is with me wherever I go, I am comforted.  I am so lucky to have such a great best friend! Waiting for God’s Match

Today, I was talking to my mom about my future spouse, wondering who God has for me.  She gave me a wonderful response, and she spoke truth into my life.

“Your prince charming is out there.  He is just busy becoming the man God wants him to be before he meets you.”

I lot of young people are in the same spot as I.  We see our friends and family having girlfriend/boyfriends and spouses, and we long for the day when we will have the same thing.  But, God has a plan, and He knows the person we are meant to marry.  It can be hard to see others around you who already found their match, but if we are patient and wait on God’s timing, great things will happen.  God is busy writing the love story of our life. You’ve Got Something to Say

When I first thought about starting a blog, I wasn’t sure if anybody would want to read it.  I thought to my self, what in the world would I write about?  But, God has a plan for each of our lives, and He has given us something to say.  Matthew West’s song, “Something to Say,”  is such an encouragement to me because it shows how God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Why Don’t We Encourage One Another?

You might think I am a little crazy, but my cough drop wrappers have encouraging words on them.  I know I have a cold, but really I am not feverish.  My mom was gracious enough to pick up some Halls cough drops today.  As I unwrapped my cough drop I noticed the wrapper said stuff like “You got it in you; keep your chin up; tough is your middle name; get back in the game…”  It got me thinking, what if the only encouraging words a person heard or saw in a day came from their cough drop wrapper?  How often do we encourage one another?  Do we ever go a whole day without encouraging those around us?   [Read more...]

Trusting God in the Big Stuff, the Little Stuff and the In-Between Stuff

I struggle with anxiety like many of you.  I worry about my future.  Will I get a good job someday?  Will I do well in college?  Did I pick the right major?  Will all my needs be provided for?  Numerous times in the Bible God talks about worry.  In my Bible, every passage of scripture dealing with anxiety and worrying is highlighted, underlined, and starred in hopes of me reading it and getting the memo: stop worrying! Food, Faith, and Daily Lessons

Yesterday, I bragged about one of my brothers, Nick, and I got to thinking I should talk about my brother, Chris, sometime this week.  After what I saw Chris do yesterday before church, I realized even more how blessed I am to have two Godly older brothers.

Before going to church yesterday, I saw a Facebook post by Casting Crowns that caught my eye.

“There are people who need Jesus coming to your church today. Are you ready?”

I was praying and asking God to help me be welcoming to the new people in our church.  But, God has a different plan for my family and I that morning.   [Read more...]
