Question of the Day: Do You Have Anything?

Working in a restaurant, I am privileged to meet cute kids and funny adults.  A little boy and his family have been coming to our restaurant this summer.  Last time he came, the little, 2-year-old boy asked me if I had an iPad.  I told him no, and he was quite shocked.  ”I have two iPads (His family does),” he said.

Today, this little boy and his family came in today.  He asked me if I had a Nintendo DS, and I told him no.  He goes on asking me a million other questions.  Finally, he said, “Do you have anything?”  His question got me thinking.

I am reminded of a sad situation I witnessed yesterday.  I saw a woman on the side of the interstate yesterday.  It was raining and she was holding up a sign, “What would Jesus do?”  My heart broke in a million pieces, and I gave her the little money I had in my wallet.  I wished I could have done more.  When I got home, I couldn’t help but feel extremely grateful for what I have.  I have roof over my head, a beautiful bedroom, drawers full of clothes, a car to drive, a bed to sleep on, running water, a fridge full of food, a loving family,  educational opportunities, and much more.  If that realization doesn’t cure a case of the grumpies, I don’t know what will.

I am been blessed with so much.  Instead of craving the latest and greatest, I am starting to find contentment with what I have.  I praise God for the blessings He has given me.  To answer the little boy’s question: I have more than just anything, I have everything I need.

Glass Jar Decor

I found an old mason jar at an antique store this week.  I was inspired by a message in a bottle, so I decided to write motivation sayings about faith and put it in the jar.  I then found some clear stones to put at the bottom.  I added a ribbon and a button at the bottom to add some more color.  I wanted to  put a light such as an electronic tea light candle but I couldn’t seem to find one.  If you decided to make this, you could add your own personal touches.  There are so many things you can do with old jars, who knew!

Crafting with Buttons

I am so happy it is summer!  Now I have more time to get back to crafting.  I have been in the process of re-doing my room, and I am in need of some art to put on my walls.  I came across a bag of vintage buttons today and I decided to make something fun.  I used the buttons along with an old frame I had to make a heart.

Follow the Call

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  They immediately left their nets and followed Him.” Matthew 4:18-20 NKJV

I was reading my Bible last night and I came across Matthew 4:18-20.  As I was reading I was struck something.  When Jesus told the fishermen to follow Him, “they immediately left their nets and follow Him.”  The fishermen didn’t spend time thinking “Should I go or should I wait until I’m ready” or “What about my business?  How will I make a living?”  Can you imagine sitting at work or sitting at your house, and Jesus comes to you and tells you to leave it all for Him?  The fisherman are such an example for us.

How many times has God called us to do something and we were hesitant about it?  Maybe we thought, “Right now this just doesn’t work for me.  What about my family and job?  I am just going to have to think about it.”  If we lived our lives like the fishermen and whenever God called us to do something, we did it, how much better off we would be?  God has a plan for each one of us, so when He calls us to do something, we should be like the fishermen and act immediately.

When we are called to do something for God does it mean that it will be easy?  No, not at all.  The fisherman had to give up their business, their livelihood to follow Christ.  In the process of following God’s plan for our life, we might be faced with difficult circumstances. We will have to give up the life we planned for in exchange for the life God has planned for us.  This means we might have to give up the job we really wanted or the things we have planned for our life.  We might have to give up where we live or who we hang out with.  In the end, it will all be worth it because we have an opportunity to be used by the God of the universe to do great things for Him!

One of the most beautiful parts of this story is how Jesus chose average, run-of-the-mill people for His service.  He didn’t choose the smartest, most educated people—He chose regular people like you and me.  God can use people just like you and me to do great things for His kingdom.  We have to remember to listen to His plans and follow His call in our lives.  It might not be easy at times, but following God is definitely worth it!

Dear Mom

Like many of you, God has blessed with me with an amazing mom.  God has used her to speak truth and love into my life.

To all you moms out there–you may never know how much you mean to your children.  To all the children out there—never let one moment pass without you telling your mom (and dad) how much you love them.

My mom is my best friend and biggest cheerleader.  I wrote this for her. [Read more...]

Let God Take Over

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28

“Stop trying to do it on your own.  Stop trying to do everything in your own strength.”—I hear God whispering those very phrases into my ear.  Why do I keep trying to go this life alone?  Why do I try to make my own plans?  God is the one in control, He is the one who has all the strength and wisdom.  And the best part is, He isn’t selfish; He gives us strength, wisdom, and rest, we just have to ask for it.

If you are like me today, give all your  burdens, stresses, worries, and long to-do lists over to God.  He is the one in control of your life; lean on Him for guidance and strength because if you try to do it on your own, you will be left weary and exhausted.  He promises to give us rest and take our burdens, but we have to take that first step of faith.  If you are having a difficult week full of worries and stresses.  If you keep trying to carry your sins, regrets, and past with you.  Give all of it over to God.  Once you release all of your burdens, God will restore you and fill you with incredible strength and peace.

Let’s stop trying to do everything on our own.  It is time we let God take over!
