Tonight, I sat down to relax and enjoy some TV. I turned to the Food Network, and I saw there was a documentary. This documentary was called, Hunger Hits Home. I was going to switch the channel until I realized how important it was to watch. Millions of kids across the U.S. struggle to find enough food to fill their bellies. It broke my heart to hear about a young man who sometimes goes for 3 days without eating. I always thought hunger was a problem in developing countries but our country, too, faces hunger.
I was inspired to act and find ways I could help out these children. The organization, Share Our Strength, has the No Kid Hungry campaign. If you go to their website, you can find ways to help in your local communities and ways to donate to Share Our Strength. The No Kid Hungry campaign is having a petition that is going to go to elected officials. I signed the petition, and I plan to find ways to volunteer in my local community food bank and in other organizations dedicated to fighting childhood hunger.
We can’t forget about our nation’s children. They are our future, and they need us to lend a helping hand so that they can grow to be healthy, happy, productive adults.
