Rare Disease Day

I was looking on Facebook today and I found out that today is Rare Disease Day.  During my junior year of high school I developed RSD (Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome) in my foot.  RSD is actually on the list of rare diseases.  It is also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

“Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS), also known as complex regional pain syndrome, is a rare disorder of the sympathetic nervous system that is characterized by chronic, severe pain.” NORD

When I got RSD, I was in a lot of pain and my foot was experiencing color and temperature changes.  After a few months, my foot even started to turn blue.  It took four doctors and multiple doctor visits until I was finally diagnosed with RSD.   [Read more...]

You are Never to Old to be a Kid: Painting Adventure

Last month my mom and I went to Color Me Mine for my birthday.  We chose these adorable penguin banks to paint.  We had so much fun, probably a little too much fun.  I think we might have freaked the kids out around us.  It was such a blessing to take time out of my busy school schedule and spend some quality time with my mom.   [Read more...]

He is With Me

Last night I cracked open my Bible to a random passage in Psalm and I came across Psalm 139.  One verse in particular stuck out to me.  ”Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence” Psalm 139:7.”  This question is answered in verses 9 and 10: “If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”  I am so comforted by that passage because no matter where we are or what circumstances we are in, God is with us every step of the way.  I struggle with anxiety, and I have struggled with anxiety since I was a kid, so passages like this are extremely comforting to me.   [Read more...]

God’s in Control

The past few weeks I have learned some important lessons:

  1. Don’t eat questionable chinese food
  2. Study harder for statistics’ tests
  3. (Most important lesson)–Turn your worries over to God, and not just one or two worries, all of your worries.

God is using my struggle with eczema (itchy, red skin condition) to teach me.  Lately I have been having a really bad flare-up, which is probably due to dry, wintery air and stress caused by demanding classes.   [Read more...]

“Man or Muppet” Oscar Win!

I lost track of time tonight, and I almost missed seeing the song, “Man or Muppet,” from “The Muppets” win an Oscar.  I am so happy I didn’t miss it, and I am beyond thrilled that the song won!  After seeing the movie, I had that song stuck in my head for weeks (I tortured my family by singing it nonstop).  Bret McKenzie wrote the song; he did such an amazing job!  Don’t forget to check out the music video!

Beautiful Flowers, Simple Blessings

I was having some discouraging days this week, and I was feeling like I was becoming Eeyore.  Luckily, I have a super supportive family and an amazing, loving Savior.  My mom surprised me by sending beautiful flowers to my dorm, and it brightened my room, spirit, and week!  After receiving blessings and encouragement in the form of flowers, I was reminded of the sentiment of paying-it-forward.  I was inspired to help those around me, and by helping others around my mood and outlook continued to improve.  I was also reminded of something my pastor had said a few weeks ago–”We are blessed [by God] to be a blessing.”  God gives us blessings not to hold onto ourselves, but to share with those around us.  God is definitely working on my heart and in my life, and my prayer is that I can be a blessing to those around me.

“God be gracious to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us–Selah.  That Your way may be known on the earth.  Your salvation among all the nations.” Psalm 67:1-2

Muppets Collection

As you know, I am in love with the Muppets!  That being said, I have started to buy Muppets stuff on eBay and at antique shops.  I might need an intervention soon because I keep buying Muppets stuff, but I just can’t help myself because the Muppets are just so cute!  I found the Muppets lunch box at a antique place for $12 (what a deal!), and I found the Kermit plush on eBay for $13.  The lunch box is from 1979 so it does have some wear and tear and some rust.  But,  I am just so thrilled to be starting my Muppets collection!

Muppets Birthday!

Ever since I watched the Muppets move that came out last fall, I have been a little obsessed with the Muppets, well maybe more than a little obsessed.  My birthday was a few weeks ago, and I really wanted to have a Muppets birthday cake–thank goodness Walmart had some Muppets’ themed cakes!  I picked up a sheet cake and some cupcakes to share with my friends (and yes the cupcakes had adorable Muppets ring!!)  What a way to celebrate a 20th birthday in style!!  I don’t even care if the guy in the cake department gave me a funny look because of my cake choice!
