Why I Aspire to be Like Marcel the Shell

Every since my friend at college showed me the Marcel the Shell video, I have become completely obsessed!  I find myself quoting Marcel randomly everywhere I go (it drives my Mom nuts!).  Marcel is adorable, and I can’t help by tell everyone I know about him!

I want to be like Marcel the Shell because…

  • He is self-confident.  ”I have shoes and um – a face. So, I like that about myself. And I like myself. And I have other great qualities as well.”
  • He is adventurous.  ”I hang-glide on a Dorito.”
  • He doesn’t take crap from others:  ”Sometimes people say that my head is too big for my body, and then I say, “Compared to what?!”
  • He rescues pets (his lint pet): “His name is Allen, guess where I found him…under a tooth.”
  • He is a good friend (especially to his pet lint): “Well, you know what they say…lint is a shell’s best friend.”
“Hey there! Come here. Come here. Come – Come on – I love you! Come. Aw!”

I like Marcel, and I will shout it from the rooftops (even if I embarrass my mother!).  He is a good role model :)

Hair Accessory Holder

Lid to a tin container

Back of the lid covered with scrapbook paper

Holder with hair clips

I have been crafting like crazy, and I was running out of things to decopauge until I found this tin lid from a cookie container.  I found some fun scrapbook paper to glue onto the lid, and I used some small magnets to hold the magnets onto the lid.  Now I have a another way to organize my flower clips!

Inspiration

I found a cool quote today: “The Lord will either calm your storm of allow it to rage while He calms you.”  I took a picture at my relative’s lake house, and I thought this picture fit right into what the  quote was talking about.  God doesn’t promise us that this life will be easy or without troubles, but He does promise us that He will be with us every step of the way.  He promises to …”Never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).  Whether He decides to calm our storm or not, He will gives us the strength to make it through–how comforting!

From Serving Tray to Cute Memo Board

The finished product!

I was at our local flea market today, and I found the coolest serving trays for $1!  I have seen really great ideas of memo boards, so the serving tray sounded like a great idea for a memo board.

  • I took a piece of beach-themed scrapbook paper and decoupaged it onto the tray.
  • I also found some cool shells at Michael’s, and I decided to make them into magnets.

My dorm room has a lot of beach items in it, so this memo board will fit in great in my dorm room.  This memo board was easy to make, and you can put anything on it–to do lists, pictures, sticky notes, and the list goes on.

The gem of a serving tray I found at the flea market.

Small Headband Holder

Headband Holder with Headbands

Headband Holder

After making a smaller hair bow holder, I decided to make a small headband holder.  I used a Cottonelle Toilet Paper Cover.  I covered it with pictures and quotes taken out of my Seventeen magazine.  I added some ribbon, a flower, and some flat marbles, and now I have a cute headband holder to take back to my dorm!

Small Hair Bow Holder

After making my first hair bow organizer, I realized I wanted to take a smaller version to back to college with me.  There isn’t very much space in a college dorm, so I created a small bow holder.  I had some wooden letters laying around so I used one.  I also used mod podge, scrapbook paper, and small magnets.  I glued the paper to the letter and to the magnets.  I then hot glued the magnets to the letter.  It doesn’t hold as many hair bows as the larger one, it has just enough space for your favorite hair bows and clips.  I can’t wait to bring this to my dorm room!

Hair Bow Organizer

After working on organizing my headbands, I decided I needed a way to organize my hair clips.  I got an idea from Sweet N’ Sassy Girls on how to make a hair bow organizer.  I covered a dry erase board with scrapbook paper and ribbon.  I put the board on a cute easel I found at Michael’s.  Then I used some strong magnets that I bought at Michael’s, and my bows were finally organized!

DIY Magnets

I have been making some magnets this week.  I made them out of buttons, marbles, and scrabbled pieces.  I had fun making them, and my family’s refrigerator door is no longer bare!

Headband Holder

I have a lot of headbands, and I was looking for a way to organize them. I found many examples on pinterest of headband organizers, so I decided to make one too. I used an oatmeal container, scrapbook paper, and ribbon. Now my headbands are neatly organized, and I couldn’t be happier!

Check out these other cool headband organizers!
